The Bad Kitty Race Series Presents: Mountain Lion Climb Trail Run 5/10/15-k 2015
Date: September 26th Race start time: 8:00 am
Location: 1 Harrison Plz @ the UNA Fountain
Description of Courses: The course will be extremely well marked and “manicured”. There will not be an aid station for the 5-k, but a central aid station will be available for water and first-aid at miles 2, 5, and 8. All distances will include a ~1 mile road run decent to the trails in Wildwood Park from the UNA fountain. The first trail loop is a single track but less technical loop around the ranger station on the east side of Wildwood Road. There are a few smaller climbs, but this section was designated to cater to those new to trail running. After this loop the 5-k runners will ascend on Waterloo Rd back to the fountain while the longer distance runners will continue on to the western side of Wildwood Rd trails. The next 3 miles will include all of the routes not included in the Bad Kitty 10-k including the First and Second Right Loops, Valley of the Ferns, RollerCoaster, and the loop adjacent to Cypress Creek. After this loop 10-runners will return to the UNA fountain. The 10-k trail portion is relatively fast for a single track trail run in AL but includes a fair share of turns and “fun” climbs. We recommend the 15-k for experienced runners only. The remaining 3-mile trail portion will include PowerLine Loop, Motocross, Devil’s Crouch, and others. These are the toughest sections from the Bad Kitty but run in reverse. There will be more hills, roots, and rocks than in the previous sections of the course.
Swag: Pre-registered runners in all three events will be guaranteed a high quality race t-shirt and sponsor donated goodies. Snacks and beverages will be available in the finish area. There will be many great door-prize drawings! At our last event we gave away ENO Hammocks and Alabama Outdoor gift cards. We haven’t confirmed all of our giveaways yet, but have plans to outdo ourselves this fall!
Timing and trophies: The nature of this event will be to promote trail running versus competition, but we will keep time. The 1st-3rd place male and female finishers for each race distance will get a unique shirt. First place finishers will get their time/name on the back of next year’s shirt.
Cost: Pre-registered runners (by September 15) will pay $15 for the 5-k and $20 for the 10/15-k options. All registrations after this date will be $5 more (5-k = $20, 10/15-k = $25) and will not be guaranteed a race day shirt.
Proceeds will go to support UNA Exercise Science student projects and The Shoals Area Special Olympics
